'Once' By Morris Gleitzman

In class, we have been reading the novel, Once by Morris Gleitzman. We have been enjoying it because it is very well written, it captures the feeling of what it must have been like during World War Two.  It is also great to read about a character who stays optimistic even when going through a very difficult time.

The main character is a young boy named Felix who isn't sure whether his parents are still alive. He spends his time looking and hoping to find them. Felix has a terrific imagination and uses it often to cope when he finds himself in difficult circumstances.  Felix always stays positive in difficult situations when most people would not cope so well.

This novel raises issues about wars and the secondary problems that people face when living through a war. Some of these problems include anger, depression, hunger, sadness, fear, stress and courage.
