So much hard work and practice went into learning lines, memorising songs, mastering dance moves and creating a high quality sound and light show. Every member of Year 5 and 6 contributed in some way and we learned what great things can be accomplished when we work together.
We performed the show six times in total, four daytime performances and two at nighttime. During the day performances, students from neighbouring schools travelled to make up our audience, while at nighttime, we performed to our parents, families and friends.
Our Year 5 students will have the honour of continuing the 32-year-old tradition of performing the annual production next year, while our Year 6 students will carry the memories and stories with them into high school.
If we could each sum up the experience in a short message of advice to younger students, it would be:
"I believe that the Year 6 were completely happy on the way the year 5 sang and supported them. I hope when I'm in production the Year 5s support us the way we did. Always remember it's not about being scared its about having fun and expressing your feelings."
- Sam
"Dont be afraid to follow your dreams . After a while it not that scary. So dance and sing like no-bodys watching. It's so much fun if you just have a try."
- Jayde.
"The boring stuff can be changed into the fun stuff. And the production would be nothing without the awesome year Five choir. So be glad that you have lots of support from people who are younger than you."
-Sophie
"The production was great and if Year 4 were as good as we were this year at choir and if Year 5 would be better in the production than Year 6.Some advice for next years choir is don't be nervous just relax and hopefully a good time acting."
- Josh J
"Production is a show having a group of main characters and others. It also has the choir supporting the production. Production characters must have make up on their face so that the show will be a lot better. The character I am being is Humpty Dumpty and a lot of people think I am a good actor and a lot funny. The name of the production was called Alice in wonderland mark 2."
- Matthew
"It was so good but it was frightful being up the back"."But on the day performance after a while I didn't care"."Overall you'll love the production".Singing was the best part".
- Tom
love the performance great team work with year 5 singing and year 6 performance carn,t wait to be year 6so i can performance and heads up for year 4 to make shore that you all show up its so much fun
- Mitchell
"Guys don't worry it's all good you have a lot of makeup on so don't be scared or you will have a mask on so nobody can see your identity. Its not hard so just relax have deep breaths and stay calm. Enjoy it while it lasts and don't be afraid to sing or take on a big role its fun. :) If you're in Year 4 being in the choir is funner then it looks because you get to sing songs. The production is the heart the choir is the soul."
- Jack
"On the very first day of production, I was just sooo nervous! But as the days wen't, I didn't want it to end! I wanted it to go for as looong as the end of school it was that fun! Now, its time for a few tips that you should know about production:
1: Be enthusiastic about saying you lines!
2: Use your very own quirky humour, make the crowd laugh!
3: Always make sure you are ready to pop out. You don't wanna be too late, otherwise you will ruin the scene.
4: SPEAK LOUDLY! If you don't raise your voice high enough, the audience will be confused
5: Have fun while it lasts!
P.S The makeup isn't that bad! I'm saying this to all you boys out there!" :)
- Cooper
"First I was a little bit worried due to the reason that I was going to talk in front of lots of people. Also you do NOT want to make a mistake during the night seasons because your on dvd. The make-up was not to bad It was not to bad because they only put a little bit of make-up on." :) :) :) :)
- Adrian
"At first its scary I know it happened to me but after the first day you get more confident. it get better and better by the day. It was MLP. Now I wish I had a singing role."
- Ethan
"It is fun so enjoy why you can"
- Darcy
"When you are coming into the hall, try not to be afraid because it is fun and you only do it once. The most important three words are to just have fun. you need to be enthusiastic through out the whole of production because it lights up the whole show and it looks great when it is time for everyone to see it. If you really want a singing part then you shouldn't be afraid, just go ahead and try you very best. It is the same of a talking roll just do your best and try your hardest. Just sing and dance as if there is nobody there and again have fun. If you think that it is boring that you are that boring person. Only boring people think that everything is boring so instead if thinking production is boring make it fun and enjoy it while you can. The production wouldn't be anything much without the year fives that supported us throughout all the shows." =D
- Jodie
"If theres one thing that I could say about production its that 'Don't be afraid to get up on stage, it may be scary at first, but trust me after your first time you'll get used to it. So when you first do it just imagine that there is no one out in the crowd, its just another rehearsal. Its all about having fun. You're only going to get to do this once in your life, so make the most of it, while you still can. "
"In order to believe the impossible, you have to achieve the impossible." - Alice in Wonderland
- Nikita
"Well, there is not much advice to give. Basically just be confident and take everything in your stride. In our production, I was Alice, one of the main characters and looking back one of the best things I did was learning my lines weeks and weeks before it started. This gave me the luxury of not having to stress and worry about my lines when I needed to be thinking of more important things. Enjoy while it lasts, every second of it. It won't last forever."
- Leyla
"The 2012 production was amazing to watch with Year 6 performing, acting and singing.Year 5 singing together in one group can't wait till year 5 perform. ( like bosses we are )"
- Kane
"Production was the best it is the most fun I was woody I was scared at first but I gained confidence. Don't worry boys make up isn't that bad as you think about it If you like singing do it .1 word of advice follow your dreams"
- John
"its was so much fun just be confident because if your really scared to go on stage you will not perform as good as you think you will even my first time on stage I was freaking out then by thursday night I was like I don't care what people think of me. PS: so for all year fives going on to year 6 next just be confident and give it your all. also thank you for all the year 5 choir for supporting us this year."
- Kirra
"Today I'm going to talk to you about the choir for year 5. It gave me a chance to realise that I would like a main role when I'm in year 6.I could see on the year 6 faces fear and nervousness on the first show but they gained confidence and no fear by the final show. The funniest part for me was getting changed and the night performences. I was amazed by the night turnouts it was all fun and laughter. Getting changed was hilarious the girls made such a big fuss over nothing it was so funny to watch. "
- Piper
"To all those younger student's at Balarang don't be scared to do the production. It is really fun to perform for the younger children who come and watch from other schools. So don't be worried about what other people think of you, just get up there and have fun. Also the teachers have told us to not be yourself up on stage but to be your character. But I think the best thing about production is being up in the library playing the computers with all your friends."
- Bella
"Well, at first when I started production I was so nerves because I thought that every one would just sit there and say to them self I really hate the songs and I really hate the show and things like that but after a while it was so fun."
