Cartoon Portraits

This week during art lessons, we created some drawings using cartoon-style illustrations. Some students produced some great pieces of art and were really pleased with their results. You may want to give one a try yourself, they are easier than they look! Here's how we did it:

We took A4 pieces of paper and using a ruler and pencil, we divided the page into 8 equally sized boxes. We only pressed very lightly with our pencils, as the lines were just used as a guide to make sure we used the whole page and we didn't want them to stand out as part of the final piece.

The first part of our portrait was drawing the head. We drew a long oval that took up half the page. We then added shoulders and a long thin neck.

Using our creativity, we added hair and some facial features such as eyes, nose, mouth and some students added ears and eyebrows.

Once our outlines were complete, we went over them in black oil pastels before using coloured oil pastels to complete our pieces.

Here are some photos of our final pieces, we hope you enjoy them!
